OEM, ODM, CRO and CDMO compared

Choose a service route by the work and responsibility your project needs.
Start with what is already defined
An OEM enquiry commonly begins with an established product or packaging brief. ODM may include formula or design development. CRO work focuses on a defined research question and deliverable. CDMO enquiries connect development with manufacturing scope. The names are useful only when the actual tasks are written down.
Agree outputs and ownership
Define prototype milestones, analytical work, acceptance criteria and responsibilities. Clarify who owns formula, sequence, artwork and generated project data. State which decisions remain with the customer and which are part of the supplier’s scope. A clear contract matters more than a broad capability label.
Review checklist
- Fixed inputs and development needs
- Research and prototype deliverables
- Manufacturing and analytical scope
- Quality and regulatory responsibilities
- Confidentiality and intellectual property
Include this in your enquiry
Send the precise material or project identity, target amount and destination, together with the questions in this checklist. State which requirements are fixed and which need technical review. The team can then confirm the relevant document or development scope. Keep the agreed requirements with the quotation and project reference.
