Reading a peptide certificate of analysis
Read a COA as a record for an identified lot and an agreed specification.

Read a COA as a record for an identified lot and an agreed specification.
Check the document relationship
Start with the material identity, lot identifier, date and issuing organization. Compare those fields with the quotation, container label and receiving records. A report for a related compound or a different batch does not describe the material currently offered. Keep the document version used for acceptance with the order record.
Understand what each result measures
Review the method, units, result and criterion for each reported attribute. Identity, chromatographic purity and content are different questions. The report should make clear what was assessed rather than inviting the reader to infer properties that were not tested. Ask for clarification if an acceptance statement cannot be connected to a result.
Review checklist
- Material and lot match the offer
- Methods and units are identifiable
- Results relate to acceptance criteria
- Missing attributes are explicitly discussed
- Document version retained with receiving records
Include this in your enquiry
Send the precise material or project identity, target amount and destination, together with the questions in this checklist. State which requirements are fixed and which need technical review. The team can then confirm the relevant document or development scope. Keep the agreed requirements with the quotation and project reference.

For a regulatory specification context, see ICH Q6B. Its formal scope should be assessed for the actual program; it is not a claim that every catalog material is regulated under that guideline.
